
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 in 2000) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans over 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her soft, smooth vocals. She recorded over 30 albums of standards and jazz from 1955 until 1969. Her debut album "Cry Me a River" which she recorded was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her performance as Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career started with film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in a variety of westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional musical career. The final album of her studio was released in the year 1969. Her success continued as the female character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) in which she appeared with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
